Our Elderly
The South Asian Muslim community has been growing rapidly in major cities such as Sydney and Melbourne over the past 25 years. Earlier a large number of South Asian Muslims, many of them professionals, migrated to Australia in the early 70s and most of them have now retired and some have reached critical old age. Few of our elderly are admitted to aged care homes and many more are living in their own homes but are in need of special care.
Many newly arrived South Asian families bring their retired parents from the subcontinent to live with them and these elderly lead quite an isolated life in a foreign land. Many of them attain permanent residency after a few years of stay in Australia. These elderly need specific care.
